Position Summary

Rochester Academy of Science Charter School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our Elementary School team. The Special Education Teacher is responsible for providing specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities while working collaboratively with general education teachers, families, service providers, and school leadership.

The ideal candidate will create a positive, inclusive classroom environment and provide instruction that meets the individual academic, behavioral, and developmental needs of each student.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide specially designed instruction to students with disabilities in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Develop and implement effective lesson plans that address students' individual learning needs and goals.
  • Monitor student progress and use assessment data to adjust instruction and interventions.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation related to student progress, IEP goals, and special education services.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to support students in inclusive classroom settings.
  • Participate in IEP meetings and contribute meaningful information regarding student progress, needs, and recommendations.
  • Communicate regularly and professionally with parents and guardians regarding student progress and educational needs.
  • Work collaboratively with related service providers, including speech therapists, occupational therapists, counselors, and other support staff.
  • Provide appropriate classroom accommodations, modifications, interventions, and instructional strategies.
  • Establish and maintain a safe, respectful, and supportive learning environment.
  • Support students' academic, social-emotional, behavioral, and developmental growth.
  • Implement classroom and behavior-management strategies that promote student engagement and success.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information and follow all applicable school policies and regulations.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and school requirements related to special education.
  • Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and other school activities as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by school administration.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field required.
  • Valid New York State Special Education teaching certification appropriate for the grade level required.
  • Experience working with elementary-aged students preferred.
  • Knowledge of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), special education regulations, and evidence-based instructional practices.
  • Strong classroom-management and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team.
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
Work Environment

The Special Education Teacher works primarily in a school and classroom environment and regularly collaborates with teachers, administrators, families, and related service providers. The position requires the ability to effectively support students with a variety of academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and developmental needs.
