PositionSummary
We are seeking a motivated Electrical Engineering co-op student to join our hardware development team in Rochester, NY. This role offers hands-on involvement in the design, bring-up, and validation of real-world motion control hardware, including servo drives, power electronics, and embedded control systems. The co-op will work closely with experienced hardware and software engineers, contributing to prototype and pre-production designs that directly support active product development programs.
Learning& Development Opportunity
This co-op is designed to provide practical, industry-relevant experience across the full electrical hardware development lifecycle. You will gain exposure to how high-performance motion control systems are designed, tested, and validated for demanding industrial and regulated environments. You will have opportunities to:
- Work with best-in-class servo drive and power electronics hardware
- Participate in schematic review, PCB bring-up, and system integration activities
- Learn structured hardware debugging techniques and component-level troubleshooting
- Collaborate with firmware and controls engineers at the hardware–software interface
- See how engineering decisions translate into production-ready motion control products
- Assist in design and bring-up of prototype hardware, including PCB layout, wiring diagrams, and integration
- Develop and run test scripts and diagnostics, analyze results, and support hardware debugging to the component level
- Participate in electrical system evaluation, assist software team with test setup, and validate performance through hands on testing
- Develop and maintain clear documentation—such as wiring diagrams, BOMs, and test reports
- Adhere to industry standards (e.g., NEC, ANSI) and internal quality protocols during design and testing phases.
- Junior, Senior, or Graduate student (MS/PhD) in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline (Electronics, Control Systems, Robotics, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, etc.)
- Practical exposure to circuit design, PCB layout, or hardware testing—class projects or lab experience
- Familiarity with SPICE, Altium, or similar tools is a plus
- Familiarity with MATLAB, Python, or Linux is a plus
- Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail and documentation rigor
- Effective verbal and written communication skills; dependable and proactive team player
