Job Description:
Our Mechanical Engineers are responsible for design of highly complex opto-mechanical and electromechanical components from concept straight through to production. Although our work is driven by specific objectives, goals and defined boundaries, we execute our work under wide guidelines. Mechanical Engineering at L3
HARRIS WESCAM requires the application of advanced engineering experiences requiring specialized knowledge for decidedly complex engineering assignments. Our state-of-the-art electro-optical stabilized imaging systems are renowned globally for their durability, capability and modularity. Essential Functions:
* Responsibility for development of assigned projects as a team leader and as a technical contributor. This position bridges leadership and technical responsibilities.
* Responsibility for the architecture and development of assigned projects and hardware subsystems.
* Generation of hardware artifacts including requirements, drawings, BOMS, and ICDs
* Determine, assign and manage project tasks with team members allocated to the specific project. Work with the Manager to choose the proper skillset for the project.
* Formulate specific design and project tasks based on overall project goals defined by the manager.
* Flow down tasks and assignments to allocated team members and manage to completion.
* Support the Manager in the performance assessment of personnel to be considered in yearly reviews.
* Schedule and actively participate in technical design reviews to ensure design integrity is achieved.
* Participate in developing and maintaining the related engineering design practices, processes and standards.
* Provide the required metrics, reports and performance measures to the Manager.
* Troubleshoot technical problems on production and customer equipment.
* Provide technical support to other areas of the organization including Manufacturing Engineering, Bids and Proposals, and Marketing related to the assigned project.
* Develop a strong presence across engineering and other areas of the business to maximize collaboration and synergy in an effort to meet project goals.
* Watch for new technologies and leadership trends that may impact present and future product development.
* Complete other tasks and projects as assigned by the Manager.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 12 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 10 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 16 years of prior related experience.
* Minimum of 10 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering design with progressive experience
* Eligible for a US government security clearance
2 - 5 years experience in one or more of the following:
* * Track record of being a strong technical contributor across a wide range of technical problems and across multiple developments.
* Have shown leadership potential on assigned projects.
* Have completed first level line management training course, or have shown required leadership aptitude.
* Have shown the ability to build and maintain professional relationships within and outside of engineering.
* Design, implementation and validation of complex mechanical, optomechanical and electromechanical subsystems and products.
* Practical knowledge of various manufacturing processes including machining, sheet metal, castings, composites and additive manufacturing processes.
* Practical computational and classical analytical skills with a focus on being able to virtually prototype a design before it is built and tested.
* Design with modern CAD and analysis tools.
* Knowledge of Document control systems for drawing release and configuration management
* Knowledge of engineering materials and their application.
* Skilled at debugging and testing systems.
* Knowledge of various military and industry standards related to airborne, marine and ground systems.
