Position: Junior Civil Engineer - Renewable Energy (Rochester, Syracuse, or Albany, NY)

The Opportunity

Tetra Tech is adding a Junior Civil Engineer to support energy transition projects throughout Upstate New York and surrounding regions. The successful candidate will support multiple projects with a focus on stormwater management, grading design, construction oversight, and renewable energy development, including solar and battery energy storage projects.

Essential Job Functions
  • Support engineering design for renewable energy projects, solar and battery energy storage systems (BESS), and civil/site development projects.
  • Perform construction monitoring activities.
  • Conduct stormwater compliance inspections.
  • Assist with stormwater management and grading design efforts.
  • Support project teams with technical documentation and project coordination.
  • Participate in limited client communications and coordination efforts.
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering.
  • 1‑4 years of professional experience.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team‑oriented environment.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS.
  • Experience with stormwater management and inspections, construction oversight, and site development projects.
  • Previous experience supporting solar energy projects, battery energy storage projects, or renewable energy development in New York State.
  • Familiarity with electrical infrastructure projects, environmental investigation/remediation, and environmental due diligence projects.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to perform occasional fieldwork and construction site visits.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying terrain and weather conditions as needed.
Work Environment / Travel
  • Combination of office and field‑based work.
  • Collaboration with multidisciplinary engineering and environmental teams.
  • Occasional travel to project and construction sites throughout New York State and surrounding areas.

Compensation

Pay commensurate with experience.

Pay Range: $65,000–$75,000 annually.
