Lead Mechanical Electrical Engineer

Job Summary

Lead and support a team of mechanical and electrical engineers in the design, implementation, and optimization of packaging equipment and automated packaging lines. Serve as the technical point of contact for non‑sterile filling and secondary packaging systems, managing projects from concept through commissioning and ensuring successful delivery within scope, time, and budget.

Responsibilities
  • Guide and manage the engineering team.
  • Ensure adequate training and authorizations for team members on relevant projects.
  • Manage team schedules using ADP software.
  • Conduct scheduled evaluations to assess team performance and development.
  • Define action priorities based on resources and deadlines.
  • Develop the skills and autonomy of team members.
  • Monitor and report on budget and financial commitments to site management.
  • Engage in technical discussions with potential suppliers and organize specifications.
  • Launch and manage calls for tenders (RFP, RFQ).
  • Verify that solutions meet established specifications.
  • Document and validate any technical choices that deviate from specifications.
  • Execute projects and tasks to approved completion dates and within budget.
  • Partner with external companies to mitigate and compensate for potential delays.
  • Alert site management promptly of potential problems.
  • Ensure successful commissioning of projects.
  • Monitor installations and commission equipment.
  • Coordinate suppliers and vendors, ensuring compliance with health and safety instructions.
  • Utilize technical expertise to resolve problems.
  • Maintain data integrity and respect specifications.
  • Communicate with production to coordinate activities relative to production constraints.
  • Assist with commissioning activities and transition equipment into production.
  • Conduct post‑commissioning assessments.
  • Write and execute qualification protocols, tests, and approval reports.
  • Participate in process innovation and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Define training requirements in collaboration with internal customers and organize training.
  • Study technical needs associated with new site investments and participate in project groups.
  • Create and update technical drawings, ensuring alignment with approved documentation practices.
  • Apply Lean methodologies, 5S/6S, and other improvement tools to enhance safety, quality, cost, and efficiency.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline (equivalent experience acceptable).
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in manufacturing, equipment, or packaging technology.
  • Experience in a regulated environment (FDA) preferred.
  • Supervisory experience welcome.
  • Strong background in technical troubleshooting and problem solving.
  • Detailed knowledge of equipment operation and validation requirements.
  • Ability to work within a matrix organization across cross‑functional teams.
  • Experience in specifying, procuring, overseeing installation, and commissioning systems and processing equipment.
  • Proficient in P& and writing.
  • Proficiency in CAD or alternative design software.
  • Strong project management skills; PMP certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical cGMP or HACCP requirements and systems a plus.
  • Experience with Hygienic Design / Sanitary Design preferred.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or higher preferred.
  • Physical:
    Frequent visits to production areas, docking, and laboratories; computer work; safety glasses required; 75% sitting; 25% standing/walking; domestic and international travel required.
