Location: City of Rochester

Role Overview

Reporting to the Director of Operations & Production Maintenance, the Lead Operations Industrial Engineer will serve as a key liaison between Engineering, Operations, and Production Maintenance teams to drive continuous improvement in manufacturing processes, manage the Industrial Engineering team, and ensure product quality through Lean, Six Sigma, and other methodologies.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in the writing of procedures for Operations activities linked to new equipment or processes.
  • Work with Managers and HR to implement training plans adapted to specific user profiles.
  • Ensure necessary documentation (troubleshooting guides, Process Flows, SOPs, etc.) is in place, maintained, and organized.
  • Develop and implement process improvements and technological upgrades.
  • Develop and implement visual and production documentation standards in cooperation with management (5S floor zoning, furniture, line flow).
  • Familiarize oneself with key equipment (including set‑up and testing) and determine good practices of use (parameters, methods).
  • Train staff on new processes and provide instructions and manuals.
  • Actively participate in the definition of needs in URS for both functional and technical specifications.
  • Represent plant operations during industrialization of new equipment or lines.
  • Review and approve qualification and validation documents.
  • Define and lead action plans to match equipment expectations to the URS once installed and qualified.
  • Identify users and assess required skill levels based on department and specific needs.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of LEAN practices (VSM, continuous flow, workplace organization 5S, cycle time, takt time studies, ergonomics, waste definition, TPM program).
  • Identify areas for improvement by collecting data or with input from the Operations Department.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop the Industrial Engineering team, ensuring they have the necessary skills and resources.
  • Assign continuous improvement projects and tasks to Industrial Engineering Technicians and monitor workload and outcomes.
  • Organize the department to address continuous improvement initiatives as they are identified.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Assist supervisors in coordinating workflow within the work unit based on new equipment/process improvements.
  • Provide technical assistance and answer user questions to resolve problems.
  • Keep abreast of new technical knowledge and developments, relaying information to the Operations team.
  • Assist or lead the resolution of deviations by obtaining root cause and corrective actions in a timely manner with no disruption to operations.
  • Implement short‑ and long‑term corrective actions and process improvements to ensure continued compliance.
  • Assist with developing quantitative techniques to monitor process performance (KPIs).
  • Analyze management information and continuous quality‑improvement data to identify ways to streamline, improve quality and/or compliance while maintaining effectiveness.
  • Ensure that all change‑control documentation is implemented promptly.
  • Ensure stakeholders are appropriately trained on processes and any changes.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or a related field such as Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations Research, or Supply Chain Engineering, or an Associate’s degree with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Leadership skills to conduct workshops.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively on a team or independently.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Preferred:
    Knowledge of Lean/6 Sigma manufacturing principles.
Compensation

USD 61,500.00 – 92,000.00 per year.
