Photonect Interconnect Solutions is seeking a highly skilled Automation Systems Engineer to join our team and drive the development of cutting‑edge automation solutions for fiber‑to‑chip alignment and fusion splicing. In this role, you will play a crucial part in commercializing our benchtop setup into a robust and scalable product.
Role DescriptionAlignment Routine Development
:
- Design and implement advanced alignment routines for precise fiber‑to‑chip alignment, ensuring optimal optical coupling and minimizing losses.
- Develop image processing algorithms and computer vision techniques to accurately detect and track fiber cores and chip wave guides.
- Integrate active alignment algorithms with precision motion control systems to achieve sub‑micron alignment accuracy.

- Integrate a CO2 laser fusion splicing system into the automation platform for permanent and low‑loss fiber‑to‑chip interconnections.
- Develop control algorithms and feedback loops to monitor and optimize the fusion splicing process in real‑time.
- Implement calibration routines and testing procedures to ensure reliable and repeatable fusion splicing performance.

- Design and develop hardware interfaces and control systems to integrate various components, such as imaging systems, motion stages, and laser systems.
- Implement automation routines to streamline the entire fiber‑to‑chip alignment and fusion splicing process, from fiber preparation to final interconnection.
- Optimize automation sequences for efficiency, throughput, and scalability, ensuring seamless integration into production environments.

- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to transition the benchtop setup into a robust and commercially viable product.
- Participate in product design reviews, ensuring adherence to industry standards, regulatory requirements, and customer specifications.
- Develop user interfaces, documentation, and training materials to support product deployment and customer adoption.
This role does not have fixed requirements; candidates with relevant experience are encouraged to apply.
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field;
Master's degree preferred. - Minimum of 5 years of experience in automation systems engineering, with a focus on precision motion control and optical systems.
- Strong programming skills in languages such as C++, Python, or LabVIEW.
- Expertise in image processing, computer vision, and machine learning techniques.
- Knowledge of laser systems, particularly CO2 lasers for fusion splicing applications.
- Experience with hardware integration, control systems, and embedded programming.
- Excellent problem‑solving and analytical skills, with a strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
$70,000-$110,000 per annum.
