Coating Lab Engineer

Job Overview

Coating Lab Engineer to support research and development of two-dimensional polymer films (2DP) using roll‑to‑roll coating processes. The role involves laboratory experiments, project coordination, and the commissioning of new coating machinery. Candidate will work with researchers and technicians, interface with sponsors, train students, and contribute to the growth of a new national center of excellence for 2DP materials.

• Consult on or lead engineering projects, programs, or services related to 2DP film development.
• Assist in problem definition, planning, design, development, consultation, and analysis.
• Document research results; draft and write reports to sponsors, technical articles, white papers, publications, and presentations.
• Draft, write, and advise on grants and project proposals to secure funding.
• Support senior researchers and engineers in executing their projects.
• Promote research activities to stakeholders and the broader community.
• Other duties as assigned.

• In-depth knowledge of engineering principles, system design, and applied technologies across relevant domains.
• Knowledge of safety standards, compliance requirements, and quality assurance protocols in technical environments.
• Skill in applying analytical methods to evaluate system performance and solve engineering problems.
• Skill in documenting technical specifications, project updates, and operational procedures.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement technical solutions.
• Ability to support planning, execution, and continuous improvement of engineering projects and processes.

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Strong commitment to lab safety.
• Commitment to student‑centeredness: support the importance of students as the primary constituency of the university.

• Experience working in a chemical laboratory or industrial setting.
• Experience in pilot and/or production‑scale roll‑to‑roll coating processes.
• Experience using chemical characterization equipment (XRD, SEM, FTIR, etc.) and interpreting results.
• Experience running rheometers and interpreting results.

Work Location:

On Campus.

Compensation: $72,500–$116,000 per year.
