Customs Engineering Manager

Job Purpose & Responsibilities:

The Customs Engineering Manager will support and provide direction and leadership to the Engineering team members. Candidate must possess a history of strong leadership, deep practical engineering knowledge and a proven track record for timely project delivery, project management, cost control and customer satisfaction. The candidate shall be well rounded with a heavy focus on EE and some experience in ME and software.

The candidate must be comfortable working in a team environment and interfacing closely with the Company's Partnerships, Finance, Marketing and Operations departments. The desired individual is someone who will bring knowledge and creativity to the position as well as have the discipline to drive results and follow established fundamental processes while driving process simplification and improvement. Candidate will be measured on all levels of responsibility including profitability, sales, budget, team performance and business development.

The candidate will establish long and short-range goals and objectives for business development, growth, revenue, sales and individual employee achievements.

  • Lead cross-functional teams including Electrical, Mechanical, Process, Reliability and Firmware Engineering
  • Must be able to multi-task, maintain composure under pressure, and deliver in a global environment, including being able to coordinate and facilitate through ambiguity.
  • Define program plans/ schedule and manage program execution.
  • Deliver executive communication/ presentations and drive the decision-making process
  • Ensure tight inter-team coordination and communication
  • Manage development budgets, overseas suppliers and vendors in preparation for, an execution of projects and builds
  • Effectively and consistently communicate overall program status to team
  • Identify and resolve conflicts, inter-dependencies and program issues quickly and efficiently.
  • Work with multi-functional teams to identify and mitigate program risks.
  • Efficiently and effectively react to unexpected changes in the program due to outside influences and/or issues that arise.
  • System Improvements: look for patterns, offer standard methodologies and implement change
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to interact well with all levels of clients, customers and employees
  • Must follow company Environmental, Health & Safety policies, procedures and regulatory requirements
  • People Management:
    Provides direction to a group. Oversees performance management, career planning, recognition, learning and development. Common responsibilities include staffing, recruiting, budgets, tools and/or processes. Resolves resource conflicts and identifies training needs.
Ideal Background:
  • 5 - 10 years industry experience in a related discipline (e.g. EE, ME, etc.)
  • Experience in a fast-paced quick turn customization engineering team
  • Strategic thinker and planner; able to drive continuous process improvement and achieve results. Six Sigma Black Belt preferred
  • Experience in working with overseas ODM and design partners and contract manufactures
  • Experience in interfacing successfully with cross-functional groups, both internal and external
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in EE or ME
  • PE, LEED AP or CCP is required.
  • Master's degree in engineering management preferred
  • Commercial or consumer computer and monitor integration experience preferred
Specific Professional Skills/

Competencies:
  • Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to review mechanical structures and electrical schematics
  • Experience with Android ARM based electrical hardware and software
  • Experience in consumer or industrial electronics with medium to high volume manufacturing
  • Demonstrated communication skills (written and verbal), experience with leading oversee teams
Physical Demands:
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs
  • Ability to travel unrestricted, both domestic and international
  • Responsive and on call during all daytime and evening hours
