Senior Piping Designer
- Process Systems

We are seeking a detail-oriented Senior Piping Designer
- Process Systems to lead mechanical and process design for industrial equipment and systems. The role focuses on producing accurate CAD models, P&, equipment and piping drawings, pressure vessel and frame designs, and integrating pumps and skid-mounted systems. The successful candidate will bridge engineering intent and fabrication by delivering clear documentation, resolving constructability issues, and collaborating across engineering, procurement, and fabrication teams to ensure safe, code-compliant, and cost-effective designs.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain detailed 3D CAD models and 2D fabrication drawings using Solid Works and other CAD tools to support equipment layout, piping, and structural frames.
• Produce and revise P&IDs and ensure alignment between process diagrams and mechanical drawings; update documentation through design iterations.
• Design pressure vessels, pump packages, and structural frames, applying relevant codes and standards (ASME, API, etc.) and performing basic strength checks.
• Create comprehensive equipment layouts and piping drawings, including nozzle orientation, supports, and dimensional tolerances to support procurement and fabrication.
• Integrate rotating and static equipment (pumps, compressors, heat exchangers) into system layouts and support connections, anchoring, and alignment requirements.
• Perform and coordinate FEA studies or interpret FEA results to validate designs for loads, stresses, and deflection; collaborate with analysis specialists as needed.
• Support modular and skid-based design efforts: develop layout concepts, piping routings, and connection details for transportable systems.
• Review vendor drawings, prepare RFIs, and ensure equipment interfaces are fully defined for procurement and installation.
• Collaborate with project engineers, process engineers, and fabrication teams to resolve issues, ensure constructability, and maintain schedule and budget targets.
• Leverage 3D point cloud data and PlantCAD models where available to verify as-built conditions, support retrofit projects, and reduce field rework.
• Mentor junior designers and provide technical guidance on CAD standards, drawing practices, and modeling techniques.

Qualifications

• AS or BS Degree
• 5+ years of hands-on experience in process and mechanical design for industrial systems, including equipment layout and piping drawings.
• Expert-level proficiency in Solid Works and strong experience producing detailed CAD models and fabrication drawings.
• Proven experience with P&t and interpretation and integrating P&IDs with mechanical designs.
• Demonstrated experience in pressure vessel design, frame and structural component design, and pump system integration.
• Practical experience with FEA performing analyses or working closely with analysts to validate mechanical designs.
• Strong knowledge of piping design practices, nozzle orientation, supports, and fabrication tolerances.
• Experience reviewing vendor drawings and preparing technical queries to resolve interface or procurement issues.
• Excellent communication skills, capable of coordinating across multi-disciplinary teams, and mentoring junior staff.
• Preferred (nice-to-have): experience with skid-based/modular system design, working with 3D point clouds, and familiarity with PlantCAD or similar plant layout tools.
• Familiarity with relevant codes and standards (e.g., ASME, API, ISO) and a commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
