Optical Process Engineer

Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Optical Process Engineer to lead the development, implementation, and optimization of advanced metrology and inspection processes for optical and precision hardware assemblies. This role will serve as a technical authority in CMM, laser tracker, and precision measurement systems, supporting both production and new product introduction in a high-tolerance manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in dimensional metrology, GD&T, and inspection process development, with the ability to translate complex optical/mechanical product definitions into robust, repeatable inspection solutions.

This will be a first shift position Monday-Friday 7am to 4pm.

• Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Manufacturing, Metrology, or related field (or equivalent hands‑on experience): 2 years without a master’s, 4 years with bachelor’s, or 8 years with no degree
• Strong hands‑on experience with CMMs, laser trackers, and precision dimensional inspection tools
• Proven ability to interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, GD&T, and optical/mechanical specifications
• Experience developing and modifying metrology programs and inspection methods
• Strong troubleshooting skills in a precision manufacturing environment
• Effective communication and ability to work cross‑functionally
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word)
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Optical Engineering, or related field
• Experience with metrology software such as PC‑DMIS, Poly Works, Spatial Analyzer, Calypso, Verisurf
• Experience supporting optical systems, aerospace components, precision assemblies, or tight‑tolerance manufacturing
• Experience with Measurement System Analysis (MSA)
• Experience with GR&R and capability analysis
• Experience with SPC and statistical methods
• Experience designing fixtures, tooling, or error‑reduction measurement setups
• Familiarity with quality systems, nonconformance processes, and corrective action frameworks
• Prior experience training technicians or serving as a technical lead
