Lead Engineer – Transmission Planning

$106,000 to $132,500
Qualifications- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline (advanced degree or professional certifications are desired).
- Minimum 7 years of industry experience related to the planning or operation of transmission and distribution power systems.
Avangrid seeks a highly skilled and motivated Lead Transmission Planning Engineer to develop transmission system investments that modernize the electric grid and support the clean‑energy transition. The Lead Engineer will conduct sophisticated power system studies, including modeling, simulations, and analyses, to address system needs and support the company’s strategic vision.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate with and lead a team on power system studies (steady‑state, stability, short‑circuit, transfer limit, PV/QC, etc.) using industry‑standard software such as PSS/E, ASPEN, and TARA.
- Use strong verbal and written communication to inform management and influence decision‑making; serve as a witness on regulatory and technical issues and represent Avangrid in national and regional forums.
- Lead the scoping, performance, and quality assurance of technical studies performed by a team of engineers; hold accountability for study results and team performance.
- Analyze complex transmission systems across multiple voltage levels; document and communicate results, recommendations, and data representations in reports and presentations.
- Develop subject‑matter expertise, mentor team members, and support business needs.
- Expertise in steady‑state power system modeling and simulation software (e.g., TARA, PSS/E, Power World, PSLF).
- Experience with dynamic stability, short‑circuit, PV/QV, and transfer limit analyses.
- Strong knowledge of local, state, regional, and federal regulatory standards and compliance processes.
- Ability to lead and manage internal and external teams toward shared goals, including scheduling and project coordination.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills; proficiency in engineering documentation and review.
- Understanding of project development concepts and ability to coordinate with cross‑functional experts to craft robust proposals.
