ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Join world-class experts in finding answers to our customers’ toughest questions as our Senior Electrical Engineer I for the Rochester, New York site.
We’re building out the human capital that will propel solutions across multiple categories. Drawing from disciplines including systems, optics, mechanical, electrical, and software engineering we’re assembling the capacity to provide even deeper customer collaboration on highly precise challenges across industries.
As a Senior Electrical Engineer I, the successful candidate will help drive the development of multiple technology-based solutions to engineering and commercial problems.
Someone filling this role will have responsibilities such as:
Utilize multidisciplinary engineering experience and expertise to design, build, and test new solutions to meet customer requirements and specifications for imaging, spectral sensing, and color measurement applications.
Work with commercial and applications teams to develop prototypes of new opportunities that align customer needs to the strengths and benefits of the business.
Design custom PCBs and overall electrical architecture for complex systems.
Prototype, assemble, test, and troubleshoot complex systems.
Develop hands-on expertise in hardware, spectroscopy, imaging, software.
Other duties as assigned .
ABOUT THE CANDIDATE
Our ideal candidate should possess:
Education
- B.S. (or higher) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or similar field.
Experience
- 5+ years of experience (or 3+ years for an M.S. or higher degree); more experienced candidates welcome to apply.
Required Skills
- Component selection and supply chain management.
- Cable design and routing, especially for multi-board systems.
- Power calculations and system voltage considerations
- Signal distribution using connectors and cables.
- Proven ability to lead electrical design projects from customer requirements, including hardware architecture, implementation, integration, and testing.
- Proficient with Altium Designer or similar software, with a deep understanding of:
- Schematic capture and PCB layout and routing (up to 8-layers).
- High-speed signal routing and impedance-matching techniques for buses
- Experience routing at least some of these buses: gigabit Ethernet, USB, SPI, and I²C
- Proficient in hands-on work with hardware for board bring-up, troubleshooting, and resolving issues during the early development stages.
- Ability to conduct thorough failure analysis in the event of issues, providing documentation and recommendations for corrective actions.
- Proficient with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and similar tools for diagnosing issues.
- Ability to mentor and provide guidance to more junior colleagues or those from other disciplines.
Desired Skills
- Demonstrated experience collaborating with mechanical engineers to ensure seamless hardware integration in compact designs.
- Experience ensuring designs comply with industrial certifications (e.g., CE, UL) and guiding the certification process.
- Experience with electrical modeling and simulation tools (such as LTSpice).
- Programming experience in C/C++ in embedded microcontroller environments.
- Drive technical decisions and guide the team in the right direction.
- Capable of working independently and solving problems without constant oversight.
- Good interpersonal skills, innovation, and the ability to motivate, inspire, and influence.
- Ability to occasionally travel domestically and internationally as needed.
