Mechanical Engineering Department Manager
Compensation: $145,000 to $209,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications
Employment Type: Full-time
MEP Resources is partnering with an established multidisciplinary engineering firm to hire a Mechanical Engineering Department Manager in Rochester, NY.
This is a leadership role for an experienced Mechanical Engineer who can lead a team, oversee technical quality and project performance, and help grow a building systems engineering practice.
The team supports a range of municipal, commercial, higher education and public-sector projects, providing mechanical engineering services for both new construction and existing building renovations.
Responsibilities- Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the mechanical engineering team
- Provide technical and management leadership to engineers and project staff
- Oversee technical quality and ensure project deliverables meet established standards
- Develop long-term objectives, goals and plans for the department
- Assign projects and manage staff workloads and schedules
- Review productivity, utilization and project performance
- Monitor project profitability and make adjustments when needed
- Provide technical expertise and support to other engineering disciplines
- Support business development and client relationship efforts
- Conduct employee performance reviews and support staff development
- Help identify opportunities to grow the mechanical engineering practice
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required
- 10+ years of professional mechanical engineering experience
Strong background in building mechanical systems - Demonstrated experience managing and developing engineering teams
- Strong project, operational, and financial management skills
Candidates with experience designing or managing mechanical building systems across commercial, institutional, municipal, higher education or similar facilities will be particularly relevant.
Experience with HVAC systems, building renovations, energy efficiency, sustainable design, commissioning, or multidisciplinary engineering environments is also valuable.
