The salary range for this position is dependent on location and experience level ranging from $100,000 - $120,500

NYSEG and RG&E are seeking a skilled and motivated Senior Planning Engineer to join our dynamic team in identifying and developing transmission system investments that will modernize the electric grid and support the ongoing clean energy transition. As Senior Engineer, your primary responsibilities will include playing a primary role in performing highly technical power system studies including modeling, simulations, and analyses to address system needs and support the company's strategic vision.
Specificresponsibilities include
- Perform and collaborate on power system studies (steady-state, stability, short-circuit, transfer limit, PV/QC, etc.) using industry-standard software tools such as PSS/E, ASPEN, TARA, and CYME.
- Use highly proficient verbal and written communication skills to inform and influence internal and external stakeholders.
- Represent NYSEG and RG&E in national and regional forums.
- Work independently to perform the scoping, analysis, and quality assurance of technical studies.
- Be accountable for the quality and timing of deliverables.
- Analyze and assess complex transmission systems at numerous voltage levels.
- Clearly document and communicate results and recommendations, as appropriate, including data representation, report writing, and developing/delivering presentations.
- Take advantage of company-sponsored training opportunities to develop subject matter expertise.
- Take initiative to identify opportunities for process improvement and drive change.
- Document best practices to encourage consistency and ensure knowledge transfer.
- Assist during storm restoration as assigned.
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree
Experience:
5 Years (minimum)
Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years of industry experience related to the planning or operation of transmission and distribution power systems.
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, or a related discipline, is required. Additional consideration given to applicants with an advanced degree and/or professional certifications.
Technical Skills and Requirements- Software Proficiency:
Advanced capability with steady state power system modeling and simulation software (e.g., TARA, PSS/E, Power World, PSLF, CYME, etc.). Additional consideration given to experience with a dynamic stability, short circuit, PV/QV, transfer limit analyses and software. - Regulatory and Compliance Knowledge:
Familiarity with Local, State, Regional, and Federal regulatory standards, processes, and requirements. Ability to comprehend regulatory processes/requirements and formulate an action plan to achieve results and ensure compliance. - Teamwork:
Experienced in working collaboratively within a team towards a shared goal. Adapt to changing scenarios and assumptions to support fellow team members. - Communicating/Influencing & Engineering Documentation:
Understanding and conveying ideas clearly and convincingly. Includes Written, Verbal, Presentation Development. Ability to adequately document and interpret engineering documentation. - Project Development:
Understanding of the various considerations that relate to the scoping and development of preliminary project proposals.
