Job Description & How to Apply Below
The Product Design Engineer is responsible for designing custom automated systems, tooling, fixtures, and gages used in manufacturing and inspection environments. Projects may include assembly automation equipment, test and inspection fixtures, precision gaging, and other custom-engineered solutions built to meet specific customer requirements.
In this role, you’ll take customer specifications and statements of work and translate them into practical, manufacturable designs. You’ll create 3D models and assemblies in Solid Works, develop bills of materials, and collaborate closely with Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering, and Sales to ensure each design is technically sound and ready for successful project execution.
Primary Responsibilities- Design custom automation equipment, tooling, fixtures, and gages using Solid Works.
- Develop detailed 3D models, assemblies, and supporting design documentation based on customer specifications and statements of work.
- Create accurate bills of materials (BOMs) for assigned designs.
- Partner with Sales and Engineering to develop and refine early concepts for new automation equipment, tooling, fixtures, and gaging solutions.
- Collaborate with Mechanical and Controls Engineering to review, validate, and improve designs.
- Prepare detailed design and concept packages for project handoff to engineering and build teams.
- Ensure designs meet customer requirements while considering manufacturability, functionality, and overall project objectives.
- Identify opportunities to improve design methods, documentation, and concept development processes.
- Proficiency with Solid Works and 3D mechanical design.
- Hands‑on experience designing automation equipment, machinery, tooling, fixtures, gages, or similar custom-engineered systems.
- Ability to read and interpret customer specifications, statements of work, blueprints, and technical drawings.
- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and manufacturing processes.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent hands‑on design experience.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
