Location: City of Rochester

This employee coordinates, plans, promotes, and implements a wide range of entertainment and cultural festival and events sponsored by the City. Evening and weekend hours are required. General direction is received from the Special Events Operations Manager as well as from the Director of Communications. Related work is performed as required.

CITY RESIDENCY WILL BE REQUIRED WITHIN ONE YEAR OF HIRE.

Responsibilities
  • Makes recommendations to the Manager in development of the City’s annual program of festivals and cultural events to enhance and promote the Rochester urban community;
  • Plans and implements logistics for City entertainment and cultural events;
  • Provides on-site coordination at City-produced events;
  • Evaluates City Special Event applications; may refer to Manager for determination;
  • Determines and coordinates all necessary City support services and impacted neighborhood groups for requested public events;
  • Identifies, negotiates and contracts with local performers to participate in the City’s performing arts series, festival and special events;
  • Negotiates, schedules and monitors the work performed by contractors to ensure that specifications are met, and prepares required after-event reports;
  • Researches, reviews and recommends entertainment and cultural programs to the Manager;
  • Assigns tasks to service workers at events;
  • Assists the Director in identifying and preparing grants to support arts, cultural and community events;
  • Assists the Manager in preparing Requests for Proposals for major events and series of events evaluating and providing recommendations & rationale.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree PLUS two (2) years experience in planning and executing small to major public entertainment events, including contract negotiations, promotion, and logistical coordination.
    OR
  • Associate’s Degree PLUS (3) years of experience as described in 1. Above.
