ResponsibilitiesServes as the principal Finance Director for the Division of Supportive Care in Cancer, the largest research entity within the Department of Surgery, and one of the largest research entities s role provides senior‑level strategic financial leadership and comprehensive oversight of the Division’s financial operations, resource management, and long‑range financial strategy to support highly complex and nationally recognized research and operational programs.
The Director collaborates extensively across multiple University of Rochester divisions, departments, centers, and institutes, as well as external partners including NIH and industry sponsors.
Provides financial leadership for at least $15M in annual fiscal activity across sponsored and operating funds. Oversees the development and management of operating and capital budgets, monitors financial performance and budget variances, and develops financial models and business plans for new research initiatives. Advises the Division Director and senior faculty on major program initiatives, resource allocation, and long‑term sustainability. Maintains compliance with federal, state, and university regulations, and serves as liaison to central administration offices such as Accounts Payable, Purchasing, SMD Finance, and Internal Audit.
Minimum Education & ExperienceBachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or business administration and five years of relevant experience required or an equivalent combination of education and experience. An MBA and/or CPA is preferred or equivalent specialized experience.
Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesAbility to work independently, collaborate across stakeholders, and manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Proficient in institutional systems including Workday, UKG, MyPath, Cognos, URSpace, and IORA, as well as Microsoft Office Suite and advanced Excel for financial modeling. Knowledge of institutional and funding‑agency policies and procedures, and experience with human resources, procurement, and sponsored research administration.
Licenses and CertificationsCertified Public Accountant upon hire preferred; UR CLASP certification preferred.
