** Responsibilities:*
* Directs a variety of financial activities, including accounting, financial analysis, audit, tax, credit and collections for a specific school or department. Develops and evaluates financial plans and policies. Establishes and maintains accounting, financial, and reporting policies and controls. Provides leadership to staff. Has accountability for the performance and results of team. Develops departmental plans, including business, production, operational and/or organizational priorities.

Controls resources and policy formation in area of responsibility. Provides input to functional or departmental strategy.

** ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS*
* + Meets with Program Administrators, leadership, and others as appropriate to review financial reports, productivity and compensation reports, budget status, and receive programmatic updates that impact operating programs. Reviews financial responsibilities and obligations with Program Administrator, Chair, Chiefs/Division Admins and consolidated reports to identify overall trends and note resource changes or needs for incorporation into budgets or as needed for variance reporting.

Makes recommendations regarding staff allocations and spending priorities. Maintains continuous pulse on fiscal performance and holds department accountable for variances to budget/plan. Responsible for the creation and development of new reports to target department strategic initiatives and financial objectives. Represents the Department and the Department's needs and positions as it relates to finance. Provides routine report on fiscal performance to department and institutional leadership at various meetings.

+ Directs the day-to-day activities in the accounting office, including processing of financial paperwork, monthly reconciliation and variance reporting, and internal control processes, ensuring timely and accurate accounting reports are analyzed and reviewed. Reviews and approves financial paperwork and holds signature authority. Hires, trains, and manages performance for members of the finance team, including annual and ongoing evaluations. Provides clear and appropriate expectations and standards.

Coaches, develops, and mentors members across the department to contribute to optimal fiscal management and fosters an expectation of accountability and recognition for teamwork. Communicates effectively and regularly with staff to set priorities and ensure successful completion of work. Develops standard processes and best practices for internal controls and strong fiscal management. Implements best practice improvements to achieve maximum efficiency and effectiveness in all areas of finance.

+ Provides oversight, planning, implementation, reporting, education, and periodic updating of the Faculty Compensation Plan. Ensures Department Faculty Compensation Plan is compliant with University Plan and serves as point of contact with institutional leadership, department leadership and faculty on understanding and adhering to the plan. Thinks creatively to marry compensation plan to department strategic plan, looking for continuous improvement, monitoring, and reporting on outcomes.

Advises chair on compensation metrics, administration of the plan, and researches various national benchmarking data for comparison and use in department plan.

+ Collaborates with Department Leadership to develop and execute the Department's strategic initiatives. Builds the financial structure to support execution of the strategic plan. Implements the financial vision for the Department and advises administration on fiscal matters. In conjunction with the departments operational leadership, oversees the development of business plans and is responsible for final submission and presentation of business plans to institutional leadership.
