Pay Rate: $92,000–$138,000 per year, depending on education and experience. Direct hire, full-time. Highly Competitive Benefits Package. Setting:

We are seeking a mission-focused individual with a strong accounting and financial reporting background to serve as the Director of Accounting for a charitable organization. The Director oversees budgeting, accounting, and financial reporting, provides financial leadership for the charity’s largest agency of family and community services, and reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer.
Essential Competencies- Experience with Federal and New York State nonprofit human service funding models and requirements
- Depth of experience in nonprofit finance including accounting, budgeting, financial analysis, financial operations, financial reporting, and revenue cycle
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
- Effective manager and team leader
- Ability to forge strong partnerships with finance team, agency leaders, and external agencies and partners
- In conjunction with the Chief Financial Officer, oversee personnel and systems who execute day‑to‑day accounting and financial reporting
- Oversee timely preparation and distribution of all financial reports, including regulatory reporting, consolidated fiscal reports, quarterly reports, budget reports, and monthly and annual financial statements
- Coordinate scheduling and completion of the independent audit and all related external financial reports
- Ensure maintenance of financial records and accounting systems to comply with all regulations, generally accepted accounting practices, and contractual requirements
- Participate in development of financial projections and analyses to support agency decision making
- Assist in development, implementation, and enforcement of financial policies, procedures, and internal controls; guide adherence to best practice and drive process improvements
- Maintain effective working relationships with external parties and interface with regulatory agencies and funders to resolve provider payment and financial reporting issues
- Provide financial leadership for the charity, including monthly closing process and preparation of financial reports for the President & CEO, their Finance Committee, and the Board
- Offer analytical and strategic support to the President & CEO and the Leadership Team
- Oversee and lead annual operating and capital budgeting processes
- Oversee financial aspects of the adult guardianship program
- Oversee preparation and submission of vouchers to funders of programs
Education/Certification – Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a similar field is required. Master’s degree is preferred, and CPA is preferred.
Knowledge and Work Experience – Ten or more years of progressive not‑for‑profit finance and accounting experience is required. Five or more years of manager or director‑level finance leadership experience are required. Proven track record in leading projects and teams, managing multiple priorities, and building strong partnerships at all organizational levels is essential.
