Credit Officer

High performers deserve a high-performance culture and a state-of-the-art headquarters. First American is proud to offer its colleagues outstanding compensation & benefits, including 401(k) match, a free on-site gym, paid parental leave, and subsidized childcare, and a flexible hybrid schedule, among many others.

The Credit Officer plays a key role in evaluating, structuring, and underwriting commercial credit opportunities across a diverse portfolio. This position is responsible for conducting detailed credit and financial analysis – including cash flow modeling, balance sheet evaluation, profitability assessment, liquidity and solvency analysis – and delivering well supported credit recommendations.

Credit Officers partner closely with Sales and Operations stakeholders to ensure that credit requests are thoroughly reviewed, properly documented, and aligned with internal risk appetite. This role supports the full credit lifecycle, from initial structuring through final approval, and contributes to ongoing portfolio monitoring to maintain strong credit quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive underwriting of commercial credit requests with moderate to advanced complexity, including financial statement analysis, cash flow modeling, collateral evaluation, and risk rating assessments.
  • Prepare clear, concise, and well supported credit recommendations outlining credit structure, risk considerations, and mitigants.
  • Collaborate with Sales and Operations stakeholders to structure credit solutions that balance client needs with prudent risk management.
  • Participate in due diligence activities, including industry research, borrower interviews, and review of legal and supporting documentation.
  • Monitor existing credit relationships for early identification and escalation of potential credit issues to ensure timely resolution and protect portfolio quality.
  • Work cross functionally with Operations, Sales, Finance and other internal teams to support efficient credit processing and ensure alignment throughout the approval workflow.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of underwriting standards and guidelines, credit processes, and risk management practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience considered.
  • Three to 10 years of experience underwriting commercial credit, including analysis of increasingly complex borrowers and deal structures, commensurate with experience.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial statements, assess risk, and form sound credit recommendation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present credit conclusions clearly and persuasively.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet tight deadlines, and work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and commitment to accuracy and thoroughness.
  • Proficiency with financial analysis tools, credit systems, and Microsoft Office applications.

The role is structured to accommodate a range of experience levels – from Senior Analysts progressing in their careers to seasoned Credit Officers. Final title and compensation will reflect the candidate's background and expertise.

Compensation:
The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $140,000. Eligible for annual performance bonus.
