Description of Duties

This position, located in the Department of Public Safety, Monroe County Fire Bureau, is a teaching position responsible for delivering fire training programs to members of Monroe County’s fire service. Duties include presenting approved Monroe County and New York State training curriculum including hands‑on instruction in the use of fire and rescue related equipment, apparatus and associated techniques. The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of, the Fire Coordinator.

Does related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma.

Special Requirements
  • 1. Possession of a Fire Service Instructor I Certificate or similarly named fire training certificate issued by the New York State Department of State, Office of Fire Prevention and Control upon completion of a fire instructor’s course is required at the time of appointment.
  • 2. Possession of an Apparatus Operator-Pump Certificate or similarly named fire training certificate issued by the New York State Department of State, Office of Fire Prevention and Control upon completion of a pump operator’s course is required at the time of appointment.
  • 3. Possession of an Apparatus Operator Emergency Vehicles Certificate or similarly named fire training certificate issued by the New York State Department of State, Office of Fire Prevention and Control upon completion of an emergency vehicle operator’s course is required at the time of appointment.
  • 4. Must attend the Office of Fire Prevention and Control’s Instructor Authorization Training Program within fifty-two (52) weeks of appointment.
