Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide students with sound clinical programs to meet their Occupational Therapy needs as outlined on their Individual Education Plan (IEP)
- Conduct clinical programs in individual and/or group sessions as per the IEP
- Provide on-going consultation, training, and support for classroom staff to carry over therapeutic programs
- Provide students with appropriate sensory motor programs
- Work cooperatively with team members in the evaluation and development of prescriptive feeding programs designed to improve oral motor abilities
- Attend various discipline related meetings and in-services (e.g. team meetings, department meetings, program meetings, staff development days)
- Work closely with parents to provide appropriate home programs
- Work cooperatively with the interdisciplinary team responsible for coordinating and implementing goals and recommendations for each student
- Design and/or obtain adaptive positioning systems necessary to provide proper alignment and facilitate independent movement patterns (e.g. wheel chairs, standers)
- Participate in the design and/or modification of adaptive equipment or devices (e.g. utensils, switches)
- Maintain written documentation in accordance with departmental and agency regulations
- Understand the psychological, social and medical characteristics of the population served
- Provide clinical instruction for future therapists
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy
- NYS Occupational Therapy license (or in pursuit of)
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Occupational Therapy
- Prior experience in Occupational Therapy
