Overview
The Medical Education Simulation Laboratory Assistant supports faculty, medical students, residents and other health care professionals by providing administrative and clinical support for a growing, robust clinical skills and simulation program. Responsibilities include event set‑up and take‑down, procurement of supplies (including animal or human tissues, organs, or cadavers), billing, invoicing, inventory management, and maintaining compliance with OSHA and university safety standards.
Essential Functions
- Assist students and faculty with the preparation, set‑up, and implementation of skills demonstrations, evaluations, and practice.
- Maintain labs, including set‑up, clean‑up, and inventory of supplies, specimens, microbiology supplies, and human/animal tissues.
- Provide daily support for semester‑long labs.
- Manage billing and invoicing for designated labs; order materials, parts, supplies, and equipment for all labs and simulation spaces.
- Cross‑train with and support simulation, standardized patients, and other departmental staff and programs as necessary.
- Assist with simulation set‑ups and take‑downs, including transporting and setting up mannequins, computing equipment, and supplies.
- Administer the AHA Training Center: maintain course records, inventory supplies, process payments, secure BLS instructors for in‑person classes, and manage registration.
- Support RQI operations: manage Heart Code mannequin/computer room, attend monthly meetings, and handle registration.
- Conduct monthly OSHA compliance checks of eye wash stations and coordinate air‑quality inspections of lab spaces.
- Serve as SAGES proctor: supervise high‑stakes tests, maintain FES scheduling through Web Assessor, create user IDs in Mentor Learn, and arrange practice sessions.
Minimum Education & Experience
- Associate’s degree required.
- 2–3 years of specialized experience in a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
