* The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
*** Responsibilities:
** Performs duties consistent with medication compounding and other advanced level technical tasks as defined by the specialized functional area. Assists pharmacists by compounding, preparing, labelling, and dispensing of medications under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Completes advanced tasks in specific areas related to training, competency and advancement of patient safety and efficiency related programs. May also perform tasks unrelated to compounding to assist pharmacists in accordance with laws and regulations.
When performing medication compounding tasks, a pharmacist shall not obtain assistance by more than two registered pharmacy technicians. (New York State Education Law Article 137-A).
** ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
*** Provides support to the pharmacy team for tasks requiring specific knowledge and training. Develops supporting documentation, policies, standard operating procedures and competency/training assessments, including periodic review and updating as needed. Coordinates initiatives with supervisor(s) of the area, providing leadership and direction for current and future projects with a focus on patient safety, efficiency, and cost-effective strategies.
* Selects appropriate products or devices for compounding processes. Follows processes that demonstrate compliance with USP standard, including but not limited to, assigning appropriate Beyond Use Date, storage of medications, including hazardous medications, proper garbing procedures and use of Personal Protective Equipment, proper aseptic technique and processes, cleaning and disinfecting, etc. Utilizes specialized compounding technique related to specific medication preparation requirements.
Anticipates patient compounding needs based on orders or information provided to the compounding area. Follows required procedures for storage and disposal of controlled substances, pharmaceutical waste, blood/plasma containing products and hazardous materials. Identifies and reports any safety concerns in the compounding processes to pharmacists and/or supervisor as appropriate. Implements plans related to reduction of waste within the compounding area. Understands and follows quarantine and sterility testing procedures as defined in USP standards for compounded medications and extended BUDs.
* Appropriately uses and maintains technology and equipment utilized in compounding processes, including workflow devices, robotics, and computer software. Identifies problems and provides advanced troubleshooting skills to maintain operation of technology to ensure the highest level of safety in the compounding process.
