Under the direction of the Director of Human Resources, the HR Generalist is responsible to perform and support HR related duties and functions on a professional level and works closely with HR team. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: payroll, benefits administration, leave admin, employee relations, training, onboarding, policy implementation and employment law compliance.
Essential Functions- Assists with new hire orientation and employee recognition programs.
- Partial payroll processing, including generating payroll and custom reports as needed.
- Supports the Director of HR with professional-level HR functions required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition and morale, and training and development.
- Handles complex and/or sensitive employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors.
- Supports the HR function with maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
- Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
- Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and aptitude exams and certifications.
- Leads & supports Human Resources projects as assigned by HR Director.
- Provides support to recruitment efforts. Acts as a resource for management and leadership recruitment needs.
- Acts as a resource to other HR team members, including the Director and Safety Consultant.
- Performs all other tasks/duties as may be assigned.

- Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization’s HRIS and talent management systems. (ADP Workforce Now)
- Performs all duties in an independent manner with little supervision.
- Regularly required to talk or hear.
- Regularly required to sit, regular use of hands.
- Frequently required to stand and walk.
- The employee must be able to work under pressure with ever changing deadlines and priorities.
- 3 years’ experience in Human Resources, in fast paced, high volume, customer driven environments.
- 2 years' experience processing payroll.
- Broad knowledge of Federal and NY State Labor Laws, including FMLA, PFL, etc.
- Broad knowledge across all HR Core Competencies—Benefits Administration, Leave Administration, Employee Relations, Compliance, Recruitment, HRIS & Payroll Administration (ADP Workforce Now), etc.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully work independently with significant latitude for independent judgement.
- Excellent verbal and communication skills.
Education and Experience
- Bi-Lingual a strong preference (Spanish/English).
- SHRM or HCRI certification.
- 3 years of Human Resource experience as an Assistant, Coordinator, or Generalist.
