Position Summary:

The Customs Entry Writer will provide supply chain and logistics support for all Brothers International Food Holdings products. They will ensure the timely importation of products, including completion of Importer Security Filing (ISF), customs entry, assignment of Harmonized Tariff System (HTS) codes, imported self‑filing of customs entries and audit/payment of all associated duties, fees, and port charges. They will also assist the logistics team in tendering freight, tracking/expediting inbound shipments, document review and managing all exams by U.S. government agencies.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and execute the submission of Customs Entries to ensure the timely release of import shipments (7501) via Descartes ABI system.
  • Classify import items via U.S. HTS to determine the appropriate import duties based upon valuation of goods.
  • Determine whether shipments qualify for special or reduced tariffs.
  • Compile the necessary documentation, including cargo‑control papers, customs invoices and certificates of origin/analysis, review for accuracy and forward to the proper parties.
  • Communicate with all vendors to ensure ISF information is received in a timely fashion.
  • Update shipment status and add pertinent information within corporate ERP system, including ISF submissions. (ISF# & Date ISF was entered) container numbers & Ocean Bill of lading, etc.
  • Handle customs correspondence post entry process and any other related clearance details/information.
  • Monitor shipments as they move through customs to ensure compliance at every stage. Report any issues, delays and customs holds to resolve issues and minimize delays and service charges.
  • Maintain knowledge of all industry rules and regulations and perform all custom duties.
  • Lead special projects and continuous improvement initiatives as assigned.
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent. 2 or 4‑year degree in applicable area of study (international business, supply chain management, etc.) preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in Customs/Trade Compliance.
  • Experience in the freight forwarding industry.
  • Proficiency in general office computer skills – Email, internet, Microsoft office products. ERP experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Excellent written & oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of CBP rules and regulations, HTS and commodity classification.
  • Knowledge of Import Trade Auxiliary Communications System (ITACS) and FDA exam procedures.
  • Fluency working inside of the ACE/ABI system.
  • Knowledge of INCOTERMS.
  • Current U.S. Customs Broker License with no pending restrictions preferred but not required.
  • Sound interpersonal and communications skills, with the ability to think critically and solve problems.
  • Knowledge of various transportation modes including air freight, LCL, FCL as well as knowledge of domestic trucking and rail movements.
  • General knowledge of geography and international transactions related to the forwarding industry.
  • Detail‑oriented with strong organizational skills, and the ability to perform/prioritize multiple tasks to meet various deadlines.
  • Self‑motivated; ability to work with minimal supervision.
Compensation:

In the spirit of pay transparency, the starting pay for this role is between $46k - $57k per year.
