Opportunity

Summary

The Transportation Manager is responsible for the leadership of all Transportation Supervisors and a team of 20 plus drivers and dispatchers. This position will be responsible for performing other tasks as required to ensure customer orders are delivered properly, all DOT rules and regulations comply, while maintaining a productive and safe workforce. This position is also responsible for forecasting business volume and ensuring all scheduling and KPIs are reached.

This position supervises the Transportation Department (scheduling, budgeting, planning and directing the workforce).

  • Number of total (direct and indirect) reports (approximate) – 25
How you will make contributions that matter
  • Directs the planning and specifications of all delivery related equipment, including fleet equipment purchases;
    Oversees the maintenance schedule, fuel contracts, licensing and all related permitting.
  • Prepares annual budgets and capital expenditures and oversees operations within approved budget; develops, analyzes, and implements cost‑saving methods and procedures; manages the fiscal budget.
  • Oversees the management of company safety program, including driver safety meetings, injury and accident investigations and ensures all safety practices and policies are followed. Manages vendors and fleet maintenance processes and controls.
  • Directs employee staffing, including hiring and disciplinary action, when necessary; ensures staff compliance with transportation‑related regulations.
  • Directs the communication of all transportation related activities, ensuring all metric goals are met, including the review of quarterly reports and creation of action plans to ensure results.
  • Directs all DOT and regulatory compliance rules, including all driver qualification files, hours of service, DVIR and IFTA reporting.
  • Responsible for cross‑functional leadership and collaborating with other department/leaders.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
What You’ll Bring
  • Education – Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or Logistics Management, preferred.
  • Experience – 3 to 5 years related experience and/or training in Logistics or Distribution related field. Class A CDL preferred.
  • Other Required Skills or Abilities – Knowledge of DOT rules and FMCSA guidelines, OSHA regulations, recruiting/interviewing/staffing, technical skills (including Microsoft Excel, Word and Power Point), engineered labor standards and systems, voice selection technology (Lucas), JD Edwards, managerial/leadership skills, developing and executing budgets and cost controls, safety management, process management, inventory control, analyzing information, equipment and facility maintenance.
