Compensation $24.25 to $30.25 per hour depending on experience and education fit to the requirements.

Position Summary

Carestream Health has an opening for a Lab Technician at its manufacturing facility at 1049 Ridge Road, Rochester, NY. Hours are Monday - Friday 100% onsite 7:00am to 3:30pm.

The Research and Development (R&D) Lab Technician supports the R&D Engineering team involved in the development and evaluation of film and photochemical products. This person also manufactures NDT control strips and test film as well as step tablets. Will work closely with an Application Engineer to test product samples and summarize the results. Supports the resolution of manufacturing and finishing issues for current manufactured products or the development of new products.

Testing includes existing product problem resolutions and process improvements. This person ensures that assigned specifications and test plan executions adhere to all policies and procedures, outcomes are measured, and data is tracked accurately to meet compliance requirements.

Position Responsibilities
  • Following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), mix chemistry, run sensitometer or X-ray unit, process in an NDT or Dental processor, and read results on a densitometer.
  • Record deviations from plan, adhering to Quality and Regulatory requirement.
  • Execute test plans per instructions using proprietary software (Felix), generate test data (using Excel and Word), and document results within Electronic Summary Report (ESR) for Engineer to analyze for assigned projects.
  • Work will involve production of control strips and test film in a wet lab and/or darkroom environment.
  • Complete Certificates of Conformance and Certificates of Analysis using Word, Excel, and proprietary software.
  • Performs routine equipment preparation and calibration. Escalates any needed maintenance.
  • Duties may include audit activities and other duties as needed.
Required Skills & Education
  • Associates degree in chemistry or biology
  • 1+ year of experience in a testing lab using various lab equipment or HS/GED and a minimum of 5 years of experience in a testing lab using various lab equipment.
  • Solid laboratory skills with strict adherence to safe laboratory practices.
  • Self-motivated with strong observation skills and strong analytical/problem solving skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact with people at all levels, both internal and external to Carestream.
  • Computer proficiency, including Excel and ability to learn proprietary software applications.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Proper chemical handling and disposal.
  • Must be able to work in a changing environment with dynamic priorities.
Desired Skills
  • Dark room experience with sensitized components and film coatings exposing and processing applications.
  • Sensitometry, processing and densitometry.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Experience with Photochemistry, X-ray, and equipment (processors).
  • Familiarity with radiography.
  • Applied statistics background or knowledge.
  • Experience in any LIMS system.

Traditional office environment, manufacturing production and labs.

Physical Requirements

Person must be willing and able to meet the following physical requirements:

  • Standing: 50-75%
  • Walking: 25-50%
  • Carrying, Pushing or Pulling: 25-50%
