The Shipping & Receiving Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily flow of optical components, materials, and finished products throughout the facility. This role ensures accurate inventory management, efficient warehouse operations, on-time shipments, and compliance with safety and quality standards. The supervisor will lead warehouse personnel while supporting manufacturing operations in a fast-paced optics production environment.

Please note: operations are currently based at a temporary site in Webster, NY. The team will transition to a permanent Rochester location (near RIT) upon completion.

Job Requirements
  • Supervise shipping, receiving, inventory control, and warehouse personnel.
  • Manage the movement, storage, and handling of optical components, precision equipment, and finished products.
  • Ensure timely receipt and shipment of materials to support production schedules and customer requirements.
  • Monitor warehouse productivity and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Lead cycle counting, inventory accuracy, and material traceability programs.
  • Verify orders, packing lists, inventory transactions, and shipping documentation for accuracy.
  • Coordinate with Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, Planning, and Customer Service teams.
  • Maintain compliance with safety, environmental, and quality management requirements.
  • Oversee warehouse equipment, material handling systems, and facility inspections.
  • Ensure proper packaging and handling procedures for sensitive optical products and components.
  • Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to inventory accuracy, on-time delivery, safety, and productivity.
  • Train, mentor, and develop warehouse personnel while promoting a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

What your background should look like
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business, Operations, or a related field preferred.
  • 4+ years of experience in warehouse, shipping/receiving, logistics, or manufacturing operations and 1 year in a managerial position
  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience required.
  • Experience supporting optics, photonics, precision manufacturing, or high-tech manufacturing environments preferred.
  • Strong understanding of inventory control systems and warehouse management processes.
  • Experience with ERP systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to analyze data, solve problems, and implement process improvements.
  • Strong attention to detail when handling high-value and precision optical products.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented manufacturing environment.
Preferred Experience
  • Optical manufacturing, photonics, laser systems, fiber optics, or precision assembly environments.
  • Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Quality systems experience within regulated manufacturing industries.
  • Inventory management and warehouse optimization programs.

This position offers the opportunity to lead critical logistics operations supporting the production and delivery of advanced optical products used in next-generation technologies.
