Roc/ACTS seeks an experienced, energized, self-motivated person dedicated to promoting social, racial and economic justice for the position of Director/Organizer. The ideal candidate will be able to effectively prioritize and balance administrative responsibilities while carrying out an inter-faith based program of leadership development, training, organizing and mobilization in the Greater Rochester metropolitan area. This will require working with and bringing together diverse faith communities, collaborating with other community organizations and working a flexible schedule.
This is a full-time blended position that requires the ability to balance responsibility for guiding the growth and effectiveness of our interfaith community organization by working with and bringing together diverse faith communities to further our vision and mission and for handling the general operations of RocACTS including grant writing and other fundraising support.
Responsibilities:
- Work with the Board of Directors, its officers and Executive Committee, to achieve the organization’s mission and goals and to ensure effective governance of the organization
- Assist in the development and execution of a strategic plan that includes fundraising
- Engage Board Members in active participation in fundraising activities
- Maintain financial sustainability and function within the budget approved by the Board
- Identify, engage and develop leaders, including the Religious Leaders Caucus and Local Organizing Committees (LOC), through one-on-one relational and other meetings
- Build relationships of trust among clergy and lay leaders from diverse backgrounds, and deepen their participation in the work of the organization
- Train and develop congregation and organization leaders and members in organizing skills to take action effectively in the public arena
- Work with staff from national network and other network affiliates to help achieve organizing goals
- Build and maintain relationships with public officials, strategic partners and others relevant to achieving the organization’s vision, mission and goals
- Conduct research and analysis on viable, systemic solutions to community problems and issues and share with the organization
- Work with organizational leaders to coordinate events such as town halls, educational forums and public meetings
- Prepare written communications, reports, newsletters, meeting agendas and summaries, and other written documents
- Attend monthly Board meetings and submit a written report summarizing monthly activity and achievements to be distributed with other Board meeting documents
- Recruit, hire, supervise and evaluate all other paid staff in consultation with HR committee and President
- Serve as resource for the Religious Leaders Caucus and task force leaders
- Attend Board committee, task force, Religious Leaders Caucus and other organization meetings
- Assist in the recruitment of new congregations and supporting members into the organization
- Participate in regular training and organizer self-development provided by RocACTS and national network
- Ensure legal and other compliance
- Act as an official representative as needed
- Comply with all policies set by the Board
- Perform administrative and other duties as needed
Qualifications:
- 1-3 years experience in community or union organizing
- Strong interpersonal and relational skills with the ability to relate to diverse faith traditions, cultures and ethnic communities
- Excellent organizational, research, analytical, written and oral communications skills with public policy analysis and/or advocacy
- Commitment to social and economic justice
- Computer literacy and ability to effectively utilize databases, Power Point, desktop publishing, virtual meetings and social media including website updates
- Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings, weekends and occasional travel
- Ability to design and facilitate workshops, trainings and community presentations both in person and virtually
- The capacity to multi-task, work both independently and collaboratively with a wide range of people and establish a positive, effective interface with the Board President and representatives of the national network
