Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU/IMCU) position at a tertiary care hospital in Rochester, NY, requiring an active NY RN license and Epic EMR experience.

• 26-bed Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) functioning as a critical care step-down unit within a 528-bed tertiary care hospital
• Adult acute care patient population requiring more specialized care than a general med-surg floor, including patients from the ED, PACU, ICU, and med-surg units
• Patients require continuous pulse-oximetry and telemetry monitoring, with care needs including acute BiPAP support, arterial lines, central lines, and titrated IV infusions
• Patient ratio of 1:5 to 1:7 (Med Surg acuity)
• Night shift schedule: 4x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:00)
• Every other weekend required
• Floating is required
• Epic EMR is required
• Multidisciplinary team environment providing evidence-based care with a focus on adaptability and vigilance
• Charge nurse experience is preferred
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility to be eligible
• Scrub color: any combination of navy and white
• Maximum of 10 days of RTO permitted for the assignment; all time-off requests must be disclosed upfront
• Candidates who have previously worked at this facility must have a gap of at least 1 year before returning
• Pre-start modules are required and vary by specialty; total module time may reach up to 10 hours
• Candidates with foreign education should be prepared for additional verification

• Active NY RN license currently in hand — no exceptions
• Current BLS certification required; ACLS and NIHSS certifications preferred
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Travel experience required
• Epic EMR experience is a hard requirement
• Experience with cardiac monitoring, including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, and use of Rapid Response/Code teams
• Experience with peripheral and central line care/management, blood product administration, and IV therapy/phlebotomy
• Experience with non-invasive airway management, nasal cannula, and oxygen administration
• Familiarity with isolation precautions/PPE
• Experience managing cardiac and vasoactive drips (non-titrating)
• 2 professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required for consideration
• Full 7-year work history with all gaps explained required for consideration
