Psychiatric Registered Nurse (Psych RN) – Emergency Department / Behavioral Health – Travel RN opportunity in Rochester, NY 14642. Join a Level 1 Psychiatric Emergency Room team for a 13-week contract starting March 16, 2026. Active New York RN license required.

• Position: Psychiatric Registered Nurse (RN) – Emergency Department / Psychiatric Emergency
• Location: Rochester, NY 14642 (Rochester healthcare jobs, New York psychiatric nursing jobs)
• Contract Type: Travel RN
• Start / End Dates: March 16, 2026 – June 13, 2026 (13 weeks)
• Schedule: 3 x 12-hour shifts per week (rotating days/evenings/nights; includes holidays, on-call, callback, and charge per unit needs as required)
• Hours per Week: 36
• Openings: 3 Travel RN positions
• Estimated Weekly Salary: $1,800 - $1,890 per week

• Active RN license in New York (NY License ONLY)
• BLS Certification (American Heart Association ONLY)
• Minimum 2 years as a Registered Nurse; at least 1 year psychiatric or emergency department experience preferred
• Strong assessment, communication, critical thinking, and crisis-intervention skills
• Ability to work rotating shifts, holidays and on-call as required

• Perform psychiatric intake assessments and crisis evaluations with patients and families to gather behavioral health history
• Provide nursing care and crisis stabilization for patients presenting with acute psychiatric emergencies
• Make nursing diagnoses of medical and emotional status and recommend appropriate treatment options in collaboration with psychiatric providers
• Consult and coordinate with psychiatrists, mental health clinicians, and ED staff to develop and implement treatment plans
• Administer and monitor psychotropic medications and other treatments; observe and document patient response
• Arrange further medical or psychiatric referrals and follow-up care when necessary
• Educate patients and families about mental health conditions, treatment plans, and safety planning
• Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment using de-escalation and safety protocols for staff and patients
• Monitor and document vital signs, pain levels, behavioral observations, and treatments in the medical record
• Complete accurate, timely documentation and administrative tasks (progress notes, phone triage, filing) in accordance with facility standards
• Provide compassionate, patient-centered service and professional communication with patients, families, and the public

• Gain experience in a busy Level 1 Psychiatric Emergency Room handling a wide range of behavioral health cases
• Work with a multidisciplinary behavioral health team focused on high-quality psychiatric emergency care
