The Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse is responsible for providing appropriate nursing care as directed by a Registered Nurse on the medical-surgical unit. Key functions include gathering and reporting patient data, carrying out medical orders, and performing therapeutic procedures in an age- and population-appropriate manner. The nurse will manage their own patient assignments with RN support, ensuring high-quality care consistent with facility policies and guidelines.

Responsibilities:
- Take an independent patient assignment with the support of a Registered Nurse.
- Monitor vital signs, conduct pain assessments, and track intake and output.
- Administer medications via oral, IM, SQ, NG/G-tube, and ear/eye drops.
- Manage IV therapy with pumps and perform blood glucose monitoring.
- Perform basic wound care, including simple dressings and managing JP/Hemovac drains.
- Provide patient hygiene care, including bathing and mouth care.
- Insert Foley catheters (male/female) and collect clean catch urine specimens.
- Manage feeding tubes, administer oxygen via nasal cannula, and monitor telemetry and 12-lead EKGs.
- Implement isolation precautions and manage physical restraints as needed.
- Label specimens accurately and prepare them for laboratory processing.
- Communicate patient status changes promptly to the supervising RN or physician.
- Document patient care and clinical data accurately in the electronic medical record system.
Required Skills &
Certifications:
- Active Single State Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the state of practice (no pending licenses accepted).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Minimum of recent Acute Care experience within the last 2 years.
- Proficiency and prior experience utilizing electronic medical record systems.
Preferred Skills &
Certifications:
- One year of inpatient medical-surgical nursing experience.
- Two years of experience in direct patient care.
- Prior experience in emergency or critical care environments.
- Comfort level working with vents, tracheostomies, and PICC lines.
Special Considerations:
- 13-week contract length.
- Medical-surgical unit caring for patients with COPD exacerbations, infections, failure to thrive, and social issues.
- Day shift patient ratio is typically 1:5 to 1:6.
- Required to float to other units within clinical skillset.
- The facility may cancel up to three shifts during the 13-week contract period without incurring charges.
- Local candidates are accepted based on facility radius rules.
- Requested time off (RTO) and block scheduling requests must be submitted upon initial application.
- Required scrub colors are any combination of navy blue and white.
Scheduling:
- 4x12 Day/Night Rotation shifts (07:00 AM - 07:00 PM / 07:00 PM - 07:00 AM).
- Requires working every other weekend.
- Must be available to work every other holiday, if needed.,
