Position: Travel Registered Nurse Observation Unit Job

Overview

Registered Nurse – Observation Unit, Rochester, NY, starts 07/06/2026 for 13 weeks. This travel temporary assignment offers a weekly pay range of $1,841 to $1,923 and a 12‑hour shift. The observation unit cares for adult patients who require additional observation to determine whether admission is needed or if discharge home is safe. The unit is fast‑paced, with 24/7 provider coverage, handling both emergency observation and boarding patients, and averaging about 20–27 patient turnovers per day with an approximate 27‑hour length of stay.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver direct nursing care to adults in the observation unit, including ongoing assessment and monitoring
  • Monitor telemetry and vital signs; recognize subtle changes and escalate promptly per protocol
  • Administer medications, IV therapies, and manage lines/tubes per orders; document responses
  • Collaborate with physicians and the care team to determine patient disposition and plan of care
  • Document accurately in the electronic health record; coordinate discharge planning and patient education
  • Maintain patient safety and infection control; ensure chart accuracy and regulatory compliance
Requirements
  • Active New York RN license (NY license only)
  • BLS certification (American Heart Association)
  • ACLS certification (American Heart Association)
  • Minimum 2 years Med/Surg experience
  • Telemetry experience or demonstrated competency
  • NIHSS certification preferred
