ResponsibilitiesThe University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) is excited to announce the launch of its new Emergency Psychiatry Nurse Practitioner Fellowship Program. This one‑year postgraduate specialty training program is designed for recent graduates of Psychiatric‑Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) programs who are eager to develop advanced skills in acute psychiatric care. The program consists of 80% clinical training and 20% didactic learning, offering fellows the opportunity to participate in select education alongside Psychiatry Residents and participate in interdisciplinary educational experiences.
This fellowship provides a unique opportunity to work with patients experiencing serious mental illnesses, including psychotic disorders, mood disorders, and personality disorders. Fellows will gain hands‑on experience as part of the Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP) team at Strong Memorial Hospital. Additional specialty rotations in other settings, such as Inpatient Psychiatry and the Psychiatric Consult Liaison Service, will further enhance the learning experience.
Throughout the program, fellows will receive mentorship and supervision from experienced psychiatric providers in a supportive environment that fosters both professional and personal growth. Applicants should have a strong interest in working with patients experiencing serious mental illness in acute care settings and demonstrate a commitment to professional development in emergency psychiatry. Excellent communication and teamwork skills are essential. Candidates must have graduated from an accredited Psychiatric‑Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) program and hold New York State licensure as well as national board certification.
Nurse Practitioner. Require a Master’s degree as a Nurse Practitioner, an active New York State Registered Nurse license in good standing, an active New York State Nurse Practitioner licensure in good standing and current national certification as a Nurse Practitioner. NPs will demonstrate clinical competence, superior verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal effectiveness and customer relation skills, computer competence and must have an active desire to learn.
The APP will participate in the education of learners (students and new employees), using clinical learning experiences, knowledge sharing and skill training.
