Patient Care Type:
The IV Transfusion Service is a blood administration and vascular access team consisting of RNs and IV technicians, providing 24‑hour coverage in hospital inpatient settings at RMC and SMC and many outpatient areas. The team cares for patients of all ages. The service performs placement of routine and emergency peripheral IVs, routine and emergency blood transfusions, patient assessment for adverse transfusion reactions, intracatheter medication instillation for central venous catheter patency, access and deaccess implanted vascular access devices, insertion of peripheral and central (PICC) intravenous catheters, routine PICC site care, insertion of Midline intravenous catheters, routine Midline site care, and therapeutic phlebotomies.
It also serves as a resource for the Department of Nursing regarding care and troubleshooting of all peripheral and central access catheters.

The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education, and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across settings and the continuum of care to meet patient and family needs. The RN functions within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients.
The RN provides leadership through preceptor roles, informal and formal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts, and delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and resource availability. Excellent communication, mentoring, and teaching skills are essential. A subset of employees may be required to drive their personal vehicle as part of their role. This role is eligible for TN sponsorship.
Successful sponsorship requires state licensure and completion of Visa Screen or equivalent certification.
Graduate of a nursing program recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), or National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA). One year of RN experience required.
Entry‑level associate degree RNs with an RN start date of April 1 2020 or later must provide documented evidence of program completion of a baccalaureate degree in nursing within five years from the last day of the month of the RN start date.
