Job Summary
The Registered Nurse in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) is responsible for providing skilled nursing care to patients recovering from anesthesia following surgical procedures. This role requires expertise in Phase I PACU, Phase II Recovery, and a variety of surgical specialties including Endoscopy, Laparoscopic, General, Orthopedics, Spine, and Total Joints. The RN will perform patient assessments, medication administration, and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to ensure safe and effective patient recovery.
Competency in phlebotomy and IV placement is mandatory. At least one year of nursing experience is required.
- Provide skilled nursing care to patients in Phase I and Phase II post‑anesthesia recovery.
- Monitor patient vital signs and assess for complications following surgical procedures.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
- Perform phlebotomy and intravenous (IV) line placement.
- Collaborate with surgical teams and interdisciplinary staff to coordinate patient care.
- Document patient care and progress accurately using Epic charting system.
- Maintain compliance with hospital policies and safety standards.
- Assist in patient transport and preparation for discharge from PACU.
- Active Registered Nurse license.
- Minimum of 1 year nursing experience.
- Competency in phlebotomy and IV placement.
- Certifications:
ACLS, BLS, PALS. - Experience in Phase I and Phase II PACU nursing or equivalent recovery care.
- Experience with Endoscopy, Laparoscopic, General Surgery, Orthopedics, Spine, and Total Joint procedures.
- Familiarity with Epic electronic health records system.
- Must be willing to work 2 weekend call shifts per month (total 4 shifts including 2 weeknight shifts).
- Local candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility.
- Scrubs are provided (teal color).
- Work environment is a short‑term acute care teaching hospital with 471 staffed beds.
- Shift pattern includes 2 weekend call shifts and 2 weeknight shifts per month as requested.
- Schedule is designed to cover critical PACU hours with flexibility for call assignments.
