Position Summary
The Geriatric Nurse Specialist (GNS) assesses, promotes and contributes to the quality of nursing care provided to patients and their families/support systems throughout the hospital continuum. The GNS provides clinical leadership through advanced practice role-modeling and professional communication. Specialization in nursing practice includes in-depth graduate study of relevant theories and scientific knowledge related to a select patient population which promotes the ability to analyze and refine nursing practice and to generate nursing knowledge.
In collaboration with the health care team, the GNS monitors the clinical care of patients and provides clinical expertise to improve patient care and patient outcomes. The APN key functions include: expert clinician, consultant, educator, leader and researcher.

Job Requirements Qualifications- Masters Degree in Nursing required
New York certifies CNSs in the following specialties:
Adult Health;
Pediatrics;
Oncology; and Psychiatry/Mental Health.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Effective teaching skills. Proficient, efficient and safe independent clinical practice capability. Competent computer skills (MS Office software)
