Adult Inpatient Cardiac Surgery Step-Down – Nurse Practitioner​/Physician Assistant

Job Overview

Full‑time NP/PA position in the Division of Cardiac Surgery at the University of Rochester, located at 601 Elmwood Ave, Rochester, New York (United States). The role involves caring for pre‑ and post‑operative cardiac surgery patients, including CABG, valve replacement/repair (including TAVRs), and post‑ECMO patients.

• Provide direct patient care, assessment, evaluation, and intervention for arrhythmia management, wound care, surgical follow‑up, drain care, and medical optimization.
• Collaborate closely with the interdisciplinary team to achieve excellent patient outcomes during hospitalization and after discharge.
• Participate in performance improvement initiatives and demonstrate familiarity with core measures.
• Educate learners (students and new employees) through clinical learning experiences, knowledge sharing, and skill training.
• Work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by unit policy.

• Active New York State Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant license in good standing.
• For Nurse Practitioners:
  Master’s degree required; ACNP preferred.
• For Physician Assistants:
  Completion of an ARC‑PA approved program required.
• National certification required or eligibility for certification.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal effectiveness, customer‑relation skills, and computer competence.
• Active desire to learn and demonstrate clinical competence.
• Familiarity with core measures and performance improvement commitment.
