- Competency with phlebotomy and IV placement - EPIC charting experience

Description:

RNs must have mandatory competency in phlebotomy and IV placement as these skills are essential. LPNs cannot assume assignment or act as resource in the overflow unit. This unit accommodates overflow patients from the emergency department. It is designated as a medical/surgical telemetry unit. The number of patients may fluctuate based on demand and boarder numbers. Required skills include but are not limited to:

- Emergency Department experience
- Blood glucose monitoring/testing
- Feeding tube care and management
- Foley catheter insertion (female and male) - Administration of ear drops, eye drops, IM & SQ medications - NG tube/G tube care
- Patient ambulation
- Oxygen administration (face masks and nasal cannula) - Basic patient care tasks such as bathing and mouth care
- Effective communication of patient status changes to the RN/MD
- Adherence to isolation precautions
- Vital sign monitoring Interdisciplinary support includes:

- IV Teams
- Physical Therapy
- Respiratory Services
- Social Services Candidates will be required to float based on staffing needs and will be expected to work weekends. Minimal requests for time off are acceptable, and additional requests may not be accommodated. Previous charge experience is preferred. The unit may accept first-time travelers. Candidates are expected to share their medical experience effectively. They will need to manage various patient diagnoses and care procedures.
