Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures, and protocols of the organization, while complying with laws and regulations in maintaining patient information. This position leads the coordination of care for patients by applying effective decision‑making skills based on patient/family healthcare needs and priorities.

• Develop therapeutic relationships with patients and families, promoting decision making based on assessment of patient medical histories, symptoms, examinations, diagnoses, conditions and treatments.
• Communicate and collaborate concisely and continuously among the clinical team, including physicians, both verbally and in documentation, focusing on identified patient problems and needs, implementing and monitoring patient care plans, and recording and communicating patient conditions to optimize health outcomes.
• Assess and coordinate patient discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team.
• Apply collaborative teamwork and leadership as a member of an inter‑professional team to coordinate patient‑centered care for quality patient and unit outcomes of care processes.
• Utilize information, resources, and technology to provide patient‑centered care, nursing processes including patient/family engagement, evidence‑based practices, safety, and process improvement.
• Exemplify professionalism: apply lifelong learning; contribute to the science of nursing; participate in governance; share knowledge to expand the scope of best practices and build the ethical, moral and regulatory base for best practices and processes of patient and unit care.
• Perform nursing care according to the population served on the unit as referenced in the Administrative, Scope of Services Policy.
• Perform other duties as assigned in line with the current basic nursing scope.
• Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
• Medical‑Surgical specific responsibilities: develop, implement, and evaluate the nursing care plan for pre‑ and post‑operative patients; monitor vital signs, manage complex conditions, wound care, and intravenous lines; modify patient care plans as needed; maintain accurate reports; order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests; recommend appropriate drugs, devices, or therapies; coordinate infection control programs and advise personnel on necessary precautions.

• Required: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in nursing or a directly related field (RN‑2 level).
• Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers; ACLS/PALS certification may waive the BLS requirement.
• Current eligibility for a Kansas RN license or Multi‑State Compact license.
• Preferred: ACLS certification within 6 months of hire (for ED, ICU, or other units).
