Job Title:
Quality Inspector
The Quality Inspector performs detailed dimensional inspections on in‑process and finished machined parts, weldments, fabricated products, painted and powder‑coated finishes, and assemblies and sub‑assemblies. This role uses a variety of metrology tools and coordinate measuring machines (CMM) to verify product quality, maintains accurate inspection records and documentation, and supports corrective action investigations to ensure consistent adherence to quality standards.
Responsibilities- Perform dimensional inspections of in‑process and finished precision machined parts to verify conformance to engineering drawings and specifications.
- Inspect weldments, fabricated products, and assemblies/sub‑assemblies to ensure they meet quality and workmanship standards.
- Conduct visual inspections of painted and powder‑coated finishes to identify defects and verify surface quality.
- Use metrology tools such as calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring instruments to perform accurate measurements.
- Program and operate coordinate measuring machines (CMM) to perform automated and semi‑automated inspection routines.
- Operate and utilize Smart Scope vision systems with ZONE3 software to perform detailed optical inspections.
- Interpret blueprints and technical drawings to determine inspection criteria, tolerances, and measurement points.
- Perform quality checks throughout the production process to identify nonconformances and potential issues early.
- Maintain complete and accurate inspection records, reports, and documentation in accordance with quality procedures.
- Support corrective action investigations by providing inspection data, analysis, and feedback to help identify root causes.
- Collaborate with production and quality teams to communicate inspection results and recommend improvements when necessary.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned by the Quality Supervisor in support of overall quality control objectives.
- Minimum of 5+ years of precision machining inspection experience, including dimensional verification of complex machined components.
- Minimum of 5+ years of hands‑on CMM experience, including programming and operating coordinate measuring machines.
- Strong quality control and inspection practices within a manufacturing or machining environment.
- Proficiency in CMM inspection techniques and methods for verifying tight tolerances and critical dimensions.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications with a high degree of accuracy.
- Skilled in the use of micrometers, calipers, and other precision metrology tools for dimensional inspection.
- Experience performing visual inspections to identify defects in surfaces, finishes, and assembled products.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct thorough quality checks and document findings clearly and accurately.
- Smart Scope vision system experience, including use of ZONE3 software for optical measurement and inspection.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience inspecting weldments, fabricated structures, and mechanical assemblies.
- Familiarity with painted and powder‑coated finishes and common surface defect types.
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to inspection and documentation.
- Ability to work collaboratively with production, engineering, and quality teams to resolve quality issues.
- Comfort with maintaining organized inspection records and supporting quality audits.
- Adaptability to take on additional quality‑related duties as assigned to support team objectives.
