* POSITION SUMMARY:

* This position is an appointment at the University of Rochester's Laboratory for Laser Energetics (LLE).

The Integrated Modeling Group in the Theory Division of the LLE is seeking an outstanding computational and theoretical scientist to conduct rigorous, high-impact research in radiation-hydrodynamic modeling and development relevant to inertial confinement fusion (ICF), high energy-density physics, and fundamental science. The successful candidate will make significant contributions to ongoing efforts in high-fidelity modeling of ICF and HED experiments on OMEGA and NIF and associated code validation;

support and develop necessary improvements in LLE modeling tools, and work closely with experimental physicists to plan and execute experiments. Candidates must have strong experience in computational physics and experimental modeling, as well as solid programming skills in C++, Fortran, or other modern programming languages. The ideal candidate will have expertise in one or more of the following areas: computational physics, radiation hydrodynamics, and plasma physics.

** RESPONSIBILITIES:*
* + Take a leading role in designing and modeling radiation hydrodynamic modeling ICF and HED experiments conducted on the OMEGA and NIF laser systems

+ Contribute to the development of new physics capabilities for LLE's radiation-hydrodynamics codes

+ Apply modern high-performance computational techniques to improve the performance of radiation-hydrodynamics codes at LLE

+ Collaborate with experimentalists at LLE and partner institutions for validation of LLE codes against experimental data

+ Publish research results in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals

+ Advise graduate and undergraduate students conducting computational ICF research

** Qualifications*
* + Ph D in physics, computational physics, astrophysics, HED physics, or plasma physics

+

Demonstrated proficiency in scientific computing with one or more of: C++, Fortran 90, or other modern computing languages

+ At least five years of research experience in computational sciences, including a minimum of two years of postdoctoral experience at national laboratories or universities

+ Strong written and oral communication skills

+ Ability to work effectively, both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team

SALARY RANGE: $100,000 to $140,000 Annually

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates are set within the job's compensation range, and determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
