DescriptionThe Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Medicine at the University of Rochester Medical Center invites applications for a basic science tenure‑track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank. Candidates should hold a PhD or MD‑PhD and have at least two years of post‑doctoral training, with research interests in mitochondria and metabolism. The position seeks individuals who can secure extramural funding and who will contribute to the Department’s collaborative research environment and the University’s strategic plan.
The Department has a strong history in mitochondrial research, including programs focused on mitochondria in cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases and model organisms. Our Mitochondrial Research Interest Group (MRIG) hosts weekly meetings for sixteen mitochondria‑focused laboratories and recently organized the national conference TRiMAD 2024. Strengths also extend to outcomes and pain research, supported by shared infrastructure with the Department of Pharmacology & Physiology.
Applicants whose work focuses on mitochondria in cardiovascular medicine, cancer or neuroscience are particularly encouraged. Successful candidates will receive a competitive start‑up package, generous laboratory space, and access to state‑of‑the‑art core facilities.
QualificationsPhD or MD‑PhD with at least two years of post‑doctoral training.
Research experience in mitochondrial biology, with an emphasis on metabolism.
Clear potential to obtain extramural funding.
Expertise in cardiovascular medicine, cancer, or neuroscience is preferred.
