* The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
*** Responsibilities:
** Provides expert histology and immunohistochemistry support for biomedical research projects by performing tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, histochemical and immunohistochemical staining, imaging, and associated quality control procedures under the direction of the resource manager. Collaborates with investigators to develop, optimize, and execute research protocols, troubleshoot technical challenges, and ensure the generation of high-quality, reproducible data. Works independently using existing protocols with occasional input on modifying or adapting standard laboratory procedures to meet the specific needs of diverse research projects.
** ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
*** Performs tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, cryosectioning, histochemical staining, immunohistochemistry (IHC), immunofluorescence (IF), and other specialized tissue-based techniques to support research studies.
* Assists investigators and the resource manager with experimental design related to tissue preparation, staining strategies, imaging, and quantitative analysis of digital images using various software platforms.
* Contributes to the development and implementation of new histologic, immunohistochemical, imaging, and digital pathology methodologies to expand resource capabilities.
* Maintains current knowledge of advances in histology, immunohistochemistry, tissue imaging, and related technologies through continuing education, seminars, and professional development.
* Operates, maintains, and performs quality control on histology instrumentation and laboratory equipment, ensuring reliable performance and high-quality specimen preparation.
* Assists in optimizing, validating, and troubleshooting histologic and immunostaining protocols for a wide range of tissue types, antibodies, and experimental applications.
* Ensures laboratory safety, quality standards, and scientific integrity in all research activities.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
* Maintains detailed laboratory records, standard operating procedures (SOPs), reagent inventories, and documentation to ensure reproducibility and scientific rigor.
** MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
*** Bachelor's degree and 1 year of related work experience involving direct assistance to researchers required
* Degree focus in Biology, histotechnology, pathology, or a related life science field or completion of an accredited histotechnology training program preferred.
* At least 1 year of experience in histology, immunohistochemistry, or a biomedical research laboratory preferred.
* Or equivalent combination of education and experience
** KNOWLEDGE,
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
*** Familiarity with MS Office programs (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) required
* Ability to generate and organize large sets of data, strains, and plasmids, and familiarity with all aspects of a laboratory to effectively help organize the lab required
* Ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment as needed required
* Excellent organization skills to help coordinate a number of projects, and the skills to help train inexperienced personnel required
* Experience with tissue processing, paraffin embedding, microtomy, cryosectioning, histological staining, immunohistochemistry (IHC), immunofluorescence (IF), and/or digital tissue imaging preferred
* Experience maintaining accurate laboratory records and protocols preferred
* Ability to prioritize multiple investigator projects, maintain reagent and specimen inventories, and ensure timely completion of services preferred
* Demonstrated ability to optimize and troubleshoot staining protocols and adapt established methods to meet the needs of diverse research projects preferred
