The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

This position works under the direction of Dr. Fyza Shaikh in the department of Urology. Her research is focused on understanding how microbiomes impact the success of immunotherapy treatments in cancer patients and how bacteria contribute to the immune response within a tumor. Seeking an applicant who is self-motivated, organized and has excellent communication skills, who works well within a team.

This position will directly support the planning, design and execution of experiments, utilizing existing protocols and will work independently on projects, adapting procedures to meet specific project needs. This position will conduct animal research with mice as well as work with human samples to meet scientific goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Contributes to the design and conducts experimental research and investigations to explore and support lab goals, grant commitments, scientific discovery, and/or development. Procedures will include DNA extraction (from human and mouse tissue & stool samples), processing of murine tumors and colon tissue utilizing flow cytometry, transcriptional analysis and DNA sequencing, culturing & maintaining established cell lines, assisting with measuring tumors, collecting fecal, serum and tissue samples from mice.

Assist with metabolomics sample preparation.

Records, interprets, and conducts analyses and scientific data utilizing standard methods and develops modifications of standard methods to meet special situations.

Develops research documentation, such as protocols, reports, reviews, publications, manuscripts, and/or summaries. May be responsible for the operation of a specialized laboratory or research area within a department and/or field work and related data analysis for a research project.

Teaches laboratory techniques and instrumentation procedures to students and laboratory technical support staff and counsels them on technical problems. Keeps general lab inventory, ordering materials and supplies.

Other duties as assigned MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) with major course work in the field of assignment (biological sciences, chemistry or other related field) required.
1 years related experience in field of assignment. A year or more of post-baccalaureate academic work in field of assignment or a related field is desirable; or an equivalent combination of experience, training and education; required KNOWLEDGE,

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Microsoft Office experience

Laboratory skills such as pipetting and making solutions

Experience with common laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, analytical balance, and laminar flow hood preferred

Good communication skills
