Job Overview
The Meat & Seafood Clerk is responsible for keeping all store meat cases stocked and clean during business hours. They assist customers as needed and maintain a friendly, energetic demeanor.
Responsibilities- Ensure cleanliness of meat and seafood cases, storage area, and work area for sanitation and safety.
- Stock meat and seafood cases; present product, face, fill, and organize items per Meat Department schematics, ensuring tag and pricing accuracy.
- Examine rotation of products, verify expired stock.
- Respond positively to customer inquiries and assist with purchases while working the meat counter; sell and cross‑sell products.
- Receive, inspect, and log products for accuracy of shipment, temperature, and quality.
- Monitor point‑of‑purchase signs, recipe cards, coupons, and promotional material.
- Operate and use equipment such as knives, scales, wrappers, compactors, garbage disposals, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
- Maintain proper temperatures during production of meat and seafood items.
- Prepare various meat and seafood products with appropriate ingredients and cooking times.
- Organize, stack, and rotate all meat products in cooler and freezer.
- Weigh and label products accurately using scales, weight measures, and tare calculations.
- Follow safety practices and use mesh gloves when handling knives.
- Participate in pre‑inventory preparation, back‑stock, and ensure tags match products.
- Walk department regularly to maintain an organized and sanitary appearance.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalency degree.
- Preferred 1–2 years of grocery retail experience in a Meat department.
- Experience in the natural foods industry is a plus.
- Deliver the highest level of customer service at all times.
- Adapt to a high‑volume retail environment and work cross‑functionally.
- Initiate solutions when problems arise.
- Maintain advanced attention to detail, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Multitask and organized; support and contribute to team goals.
- Work varied hours/days as required by business.
- Familiar with Health Department guidelines and regulations for grocery retail.
- Basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures.
- Skill with knives, tenderizers, grinders, and meat machinery.
- Expert packaging and wrapping skills.
- Understand seafood compliance including country of origin.
- Stand 1–8 hours continuously.
- Walk 2–8 hours continuously.
- Drive 2–4 hours frequently.
- Balance frequently 34–66%.
- Bend occasionally 1–33%.
- Reach forward & overhead frequently 34–66%.
- Twist at waist occasionally 1–33%.
- Lift 0–10 lbs occasionally 1–33%.
- Lift 11–25 lbs occasionally 1–33%.
- Lift 26–50 lbs occasionally 1–33%.
- Work in extreme temperatures possible.
