The Senior Business Development Specialist is responsible for generating and managing new business opportunities with new and existing clients/prospects. In conjunction with the Director of Business Development and the Sales Team, the Business Development Specialist is responsible for developing and maintaining customer contact information, organizing commercial and technical requirements of opportunities, and developing sales strategies.
Further responsibilities include initiating contact with potential clients, consulting regularly with clients, understanding client objectives, providing technical solutions, and assessing client tooling and automation system needs. The Business Development Specialist develops solutions to meet client objectives and presents recommendations to decision makers and other key contacts within the client organization.
This role also supports the company's sales diversification strategy by expanding into new and untapped markets. This is an on-site position. Up to 30% travel may be required.
Primary Responsibilities- Responsible for revenue generation and the expansion of company market share.
- Achieve monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets established by leadership through successful business development and closing new opportunities.
- Prospect for new business through lead generation, networking, referrals, field visits, and cold calling.
- Develop and maintain a qualified sales pipeline equal to four times annual sales objectives.
- Identify new markets and industries that support overall business growth initiatives.
- Follow up on submitted quotations, gather customer feedback, and execute strategies to successfully close opportunities.
- Manage the sales pipeline and provide accurate sales forecasts to leadership.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of the company's corporate philosophy, quality standards, work procedures, and mission statement.
- Qualify prospective sales opportunities and maintain an up-to-date list of qualified leads.
- Assist in estimating customer delivery schedules based on internal production capacity and workload.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with prospective and existing customers through site visits, phone calls, and other approved communication methods.
- Effectively communicate the company's technical capabilities and competitive advantages.
- Utilize a consultative sales approach to identify customer needs and develop appropriate solutions.
- Complete expense reports accurately and in a timely manner.
- Maintain customer accounts, contacts, leads, and all relevant sales information within the CRM to support revenue growth and increased market share.
- Support Purchasing and Engineering during quotation preparation by providing strategic sales guidance.
- Assist with trade show planning, participation, and overall marketing initiatives.
- Support the Director of Business Development with promotional materials, strategic planning, budget planning, and customer service issue resolution.
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university in Business Management, Sales, Marketing, International Business, or a related field (required)
- Minimum of 5 years of successful B2B sales, technical sales, sales engineering, or field sales support experience
- Understanding of technical product lines with the ability and willingness to learn new technologies in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to travel overnight, both domestically and internationally, as required
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable motor vehicle record
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
- Self-motivated with the ability to quickly learn new products and technologies
- Proven history of successfully closing sales that create value for both the customer and the company
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment
- Comfortable communicating technical and financial information to multiple levels within customer organizations
- Proven ability to establish and maintain long‑term customer relationships
- Strong territory and account management skills

- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
- Master's Degree (MBA) in Business Management, Sales, Marketing, or a related discipline
- 10+ years of successful experience in technical sales, sales engineering, or field sales support
- Experience with in automation, robotics, or other specialized technical industries
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to quickly learn internal business systems
- Experience managing strategic customer accounts and working with multiple levels of plant or facilities management to achieve business objectives
