Job TitleALS Environmental Full Time Field Technician
About the RoleThis entry‑level field technician will work out of the Rochester laboratory, managing sampling events to collect groundwater, surface water, soil, and other environmental samples for laboratory analysis. The work is performed outdoors year‑round with modified Level D safety requirements (street clothes, safety glasses, nitrile gloves, and steel‑toed boots). Projects are conducted at industrial clients, MSW landfills and municipal sites across NYS, and most activities are mandated by the NYSDEC, USEPA, or local County agencies.
Responsibilities- Plan, coordinate, and execute sampling events.
- Collect groundwater, surface water, soil, and other samples following site‑specific protocols.
- Operate sampling equipment and maintain proper documentation.
- Interact with clients and regulatory agency personnel on a routine basis.
- Assist in project planning and management, including report preparation.
- Adhere to OSHA safety regulations, storm water management principles, and other applicable guidelines.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Strong desire to work outdoors every day.
- Ability to think on your feet and adapt to changing conditions.
- Clean, no‑points driver’s license and must be insurable.
- Must pass a drug screen.
- Ability to lift 50lbs.
- Willingness to travel overnight within NYS, approximately three weeks per quarter (travel expenses paid by ALS).
- Knowledge of sampling methods, equipment, regulatory guidelines, water chemistry, field analytical methods, OSHA regulations, storm water management, groundwater geology, hydrology, limnology, and documentation best practices.
